GETTING PUBLISHED WITH BRIDES

I can tell you first hand, having my work and expertise in front of the readers of Brides has been a game changer for my business. Not only are they one of the oldest bridal publications around, they are also one of the most respected both within the industry and with couples. That said, I was beyond thrilled when Anna Price Olsen, Senior Editor of Brides, agreed to give all of us some insider tips on what her and her team look for when choosing planners to work with. Take a peek:

What type of weddings are the readers of Brides drawn to?
Our readers are looking to be both informed and inspired! They come to us from all over the world with different styles, budgets, and visions for their wedding—and beyond! We hope to guide them in that direction by providing them with inspirational yet real weddings of other creative couples.

What do you specifically look for in a wedding before publishing?
We feature weddings of all couples from all over the world. We are drawn to engaging stories, beautiful/emotional photography, unique/creative/inspiring ideas and design, and couples with a great sense of style. Ultimately, we want our readers to be inspired by the creative and personal decisions other couples have made so they can also celebrate in their own way!

When looking at a gallery, we like to see a couple's story come to life! Who are they? What's the story of their relationship? Why did they make the decisions that they made—and what makes their wedding truly them? We also love to see the emotions of it all—because, let's be honest, what's better than a couple celebrating their love and having the time of their life?!

Any submission tips you can share?
When submitting, we prefer to see images in a Dropbox link. An edit of 150 is best, but we're opening to looking at more to see the full story. We like options! (And patience ;))

What’s the average time between accepting the submission and the wedding going live?
This all depends on how quickly the couple fills out their paperwork! But, at this time, around four months.

When you identify experts to feature articles, how do you decide who to include?
We are always looking to connect with experts and share your expertise with our readers! So stay in contact with us, let us know what you're seeing, and remind us of your expertise! We also love working with experts who believe in Brides and share your amazing work with us.

A special thank you to Anna for sharing this insight. And if you’re hoping to learn more about getting published, check out our upcoming session on the topic.
